Islamica Magazine: Open Letter Concerning Datuk Seri Dr. Anwar Ibrahim

In the Name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful

May Peace and Blessings be upon the Prophet Muhammad and his kin

“ … [M]ake peace between them justly, and act equitably. Lo! Allah loveth the equitable. / The believers are naught else than brothers. Therefore make peace between your brethren and observe your duty to Allah that perhaps ye may obtain mercy.” (The Holy Qur’an, Al-Hujurat, 49:9-10)

OPEN LETTER CONCERNING DATUK SERI DR. ANWAR IBRAHIM

Al-Salaamu ‘Alaikum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuhu,

We, the undersigned, believe the honorable brother Datuk Seri Dr. Anwar Ibrahim to be of the highest ethical and moral integrity, a devout Muslim and a devoted father and husband. He is universally recognized as an advocate for justice and fairness, and he has a long history of promoting Islam and championing Islamic ethical and charitable causes.

We are deeply concerned about the physical safety and freedom of our respected brother Datuk Seri Dr. Anwar Ibrahim. We are troubled by the unsubstantiated and clearly scurrilous claims made against him and his character. Allah says in the Holy Qur’an:

“O ye who believe! Shun much suspicion; for lo! some suspicion is a crime. And spy not, neither backbite one another. Would one of you love to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Ye abhor that (so abhor the other)! And keep your duty (to Allah). Lo! Allah is Relenting, Merciful.” (The Holy Qur’an, Al-Hujurat, 49:12)

Our beloved Malaysia is today one of the leading countries of the Muslim Ummah. It is an example of a successful modern Islamic country, and in many ways a model and example for other Muslim countries. This has been due to the Grace of Allah and then largely to the historical and invaluable efforts and contributions made by Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammed and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi (among others). Every Muslim who knows anything about Malaysia is proud and appreciative of these efforts. Equally, every Muslim who knows Malaysian politics is appreciative of the formidable political courage in leadership exhibited by Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammed during his time as Prime Minister of Malaysia and of the example of personal piety and forbearance that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi has given the Ummah today.

Indeed, perhaps precisely because of Malaysia’s prominence within the Ummah and the world, we would like to point out that the global Muslim community is paying close attention to the way our respected and honorable brother Dr. Anwar Ibrahim is treated. We have no wish to interfere in the internal politics of Malaysia, or in civil and criminal accusations within the country, which we reiterate are ultimately the business only of the Malaysian state and people. However, the spectacle, ten years ago, of our respected brother Datuk Seri Dr. Anwar Ibrahim sitting patiently in court after having been personally and illegally beaten up by then Police Chief of Malaysia is still fresh within our minds as a travesty of justice and impartiality under the law in a leading Muslim country. We are all still ashamed of that image, which will ever be indelibly engraved in our memories. So we remind our bothers in Malaysia that our beloved Prophet Muhammad (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said that justice is the very goal of government in Islam. And Allah Himself says in the Holy Qur’an:

Say: My Lord enjoineth justice …” (Al-A’raf, 7:29)

Thus we feel that we have a right — and indeed, an obligation under Islam — to strongly urge the Malaysian authorities to facilitate a swift, transparent and just resolution to this issue and resolutely ensure the safety, freedom and physical well-being of our honorable and respected brother Anwar Ibrahim. Allah says in the Holy Qur’an:

The Truth is from thy Lord (O Muhammad), so be not thou of those who waver.” (Al-Baqarah, 2:147)

Moreover, given the political implications of the timing of this latest incident; given the political undertones of the previous incidents of similar accusations made in 1998 — which led to the wrongful incarceration of Dr. Anwar Ibrahim for six years, and that have since been publicly refuted in the highest Malaysian court of law — and given the proven questionable nature of the authorities involved in the investigation, we feel morally obliged to also state our deep concern about the prospects of true justice for Anwar Ibrahim in the current authorities in the police and prosecution departments (whose leadership was personally involved in Dr. Anwar Ibrahim’s previous unjust accusations) without deliberate, careful, impartial and independent political oversight. Allah says in the Holy Qur’an:

Lo! Allah enjoineth justice and kindness, and giving to kinsfolk, and forbiddeth lewdness and abomination and wickedness. He exhorteth you in order that ye may take heed.” (Al-Nahl, 16:90)

Finally, we are morally obliged as Muslims to also point out that our religion and our beloved Prophet Muhammad (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) regard false accusations in these matters to be of extremely grave consequence. In fact, under Islamic Law, accusations of this magnitude that are not substantiated by four eye-witnesses of impeccable character (such as did not occur neither with these accusations nor with the previous ones) incur severe legal punishment only for the accusers themselves. Perhaps what is most insidious and disturbing, however, is the likely malevolent and slanderous intent behind these attacks on the moral character of our brother Dr. Anwar Ibrahim. Allah says in the Holy Qur’an:

“When ye welcomed it with your tongues, and uttered with your mouths that whereof ye had no knowledge, ye counted it a trifle. In the sight of Allah it is very great. / Wherefor, when ye heard it, said ye not: It is not for us to speak of this. Glory be to Thee (O Allah)! This is awful calumny. / Allah admonisheth you that ye repeat not the like thereof ever, if ye are (in truth) believers.” (The Holy Qur’an, Surat Al-Nur, 24:15-17)

However, we have complete trust in Allah and so remain hopeful that the highest political authorities in Malaysia will, in sha Allah, secure an honest and just outcome to this deeply troubling situation. Allah says in the Holy Qur’an:

“Let there arise from you a band of people who invite to goodness, and enjoin right conduct and forbid wrong. Such are they who are successful.” (Aal-‘Imran, 3:104)

Wal-Salaamu ‘Alaikum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuhu.

Idiot Politicians Should Die

Posted in Related Fable with tags , , , on July 14, 2008 by Syaf

I was stuck at the traffic for 2 hours this morning. If they want to irritate me, they succeed. The people has paid the price for not supporting the government on the last GE and the people will be keep paying the price for the time to come. How we felt sorry for ourselves.

I don’t give a damn about politics. Half of the country didn’t care about those people in power or wanting to be in power. Politicians don’t actually care about the people. They just care about their

  1. bloody tummy
  2. reputations

While we just want to get to work on time smoothly without wasting petrol usage on traffic.

To those in authority,

Please take your shit ELSEWHERE. Take the keris or your submarines to somewhere else and fight until the last blood and trust me most people won’t bother about who dies in the end since all we care is to put the food on the table. Just don’t drag the people into your childish games. Leave us on our way. We don’t want your shits hitting our fan. We don’t want your shits falling on our dinner.

The Malaysian Ministers are the most hated people in the country at this moment. I hope they all die by tomorrow. Oh, newspaper editors and TV news producers should die too for making kampung people confused with their spin doctoring reportings. But they have to wait until all the ministers were dead first, so they can published one last good news to us people, before they can die also after that.

If these people dead, I will supply the kafan and funeral services, and eventually I will be damn rich I will subsidize the petrol for the country until we form a new cabinet ministers. Everyone will be happy then. Yeah!

My Mey and Kari Ikan Bawal

Posted in Related Fable with tags , , , on July 11, 2008 by Syaf

Mey is so obsessed with nasi kandaq kari ikan bawal. She could suffer from nervous breakdown if she don’t have a curry dish daily dosage taken. Last time when she was here in KL, she was so excited when we passed by Pelita Nasi Kandar in Jalan Ampang. Of all places, she insisted to have dinner there, and after we finished our nasi kandaq, she complaint about the price. Yeah, mamaks in KL are overpriced but I can’t blame them for making profits from KLites lifestyle, can I?

Handling Issues

Posted in Related Fable on July 9, 2008 by Syaf

I e-mailed Gerry about some issues I’m facing. She asked me to come over Shah Village for dinner and knowing that this meant free meal with poolside around the corner, I agreed. Spend couple of hours with Gerry and The Boss. discussing about mine and the band issues, we resolved to have a meeting with the rest of the guys next Tuesday to discuss the problems further and opt for better solutions.

Everyone got issues in their life, it is the matter how they deal with it. Seek the right people and they might help you go through it. I hope I could go on with this one.

Their Village Nasi Goreng Kampung was good. Should have telur mata for more kick lah!

Weekend was tiring.  After finished work on Saturday, I took a quick nap before getting ready to get to Holiday Inn, Glenmarie for the Jam Session event. This was a charity event organized by Malaysia Association of Hotels and they had  dozens of club bands performing for that night. Arrived there around 6pm and the event was already went half way since they started around 2pm

When all the band members finally arrived at 6.30pm, we hung around for about an hour before getting ready to get on stage at 7.30pm right after Chemistry finished their performance. I know Ajeng from Chemistry since he used to be a buttsex buddy of Azim who happened to be buttsex buddy of Wancat who is a friend of mine. Not a bad band they were, probably will check them up again when I remember where they are playing now. I swear Ajeng told me about it that day but I forgot already.

Anyway, we got ourselves on stage, plugged our instrument and start to rock the crowds. We played 5 of our originals and another 4 covers. Since we’re the only non club bands, I thought the crowds might reserved to listening to unfamiliar songs, but we gave it a chance anyway. Turned out to be quite good since I see lots of head bangers from the crowds. 45 minutes passed and finished our set (with encore request), I took my arse quickly to Lembah Keramat for Ijan’s malam berinai.

Haven’t seen Ijan for 1000 years and suddenly now he’s married. The night was carnival, with fireworks and kompang. I didn’t eat anything since I was tired. Hung around for a while, talked to few makciks and relatives and nenet too. I left at 11.30pm, went straight to home, took a shower, called Mey and talked for a while before I call it a night.

And that’s for Saturday.

We had a video music shoot the next morning, but will brag about it later.

Oh, Princess Adea told me that The Doctor has been in labour since last night. Will gives update about it later, too.

xoxo (quoting The Doctor)

I guess most of us already aware the surface of another statutory declaration made by former lance corporal of Royal Malaysian Police Force. I believe there will be more evidence will surface soon and with more allegations made from everyone, it will make Malaysia’s politic scene looks like a carnival filled with freaks riding weird animals in the carousel spinning around to the tunes of ‘Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite‘.

According to the SD made by Mr. Balasubramaniam:

25. During this discussion and in an attempt to persuade me to continue my employment with him, Abdul Razak Baginda informed me that:

1) He had been introduced to Aminah by Najib Razak at a diamond exhibition in Singapore.

2) Najib Razak informed Abdul Razak Baginda that he had a sexual relationship with Aminah and that she was susceptible to anal intercourse.

What with Malaysian politicians being obsessed with buttsex?

I rest my case.

Of Wirasiswi The Telemovie

Posted in Related Fable with tags , , on July 3, 2008 by Syaf

So there is a telemovie scheduled to be on Astro Ria this 18th July, titled Wirasiswi. As mentioned on Berita Harian today, it is a story about a girl who was raped and then her friend (who in this case is a so called hero and so as the title Wirasiswi) was trying to help her by lodging a police report before they experienced sequences of action which involves the rapist who seek revenge after our hero here. I won’t spilled too much beans about the movie since you might want to catch it yourself when it on air.

The point of mentioning Wirasiswi here is because 3 of our songs are featured on the movie. The songs are Paterikan, Tong and Anak Isterimu. You can listen to Tong and Anak Isterimu here and if you like it, please let other knows about KIRI. I’m pretty sure it’s not a cup of coffee for everyone, since it is a strong Irish Coffee. But again, I would be very happy if more people know the existence of my band. Hihihihi.

Oh, another thing worth to mention here is that my beloved abang, Ayani is making his debut in acting in this movie. It turned out that he could be a decent actor providing he needs more training in acting. Ayani is already a good singer and songwriter. There’s a lots of room for him in the future, but honestly if he want to join the acting scene, he needs to get a proper training. Not everyone is born to be comfortable in front of camera bang, including yours truly.

Here is the trailer for Wirasiswi with Paterikan on the background

Talking About The Barang

Posted in Related Fable on July 2, 2008 by Syaf

Dream Theater is on one of my frequent play list. Been listening to them since 1999 when I spent some of my unproductive moment of my life at one of this music shop in Plaza Alam Sentral where Azim used to work there and he always put on the DT’s DVD (Metropolis II: Scenes From a Memory) on the display. We used to adore the whole band performance, since it was a live concert and until today, I still love to watch them live whenever I got chances on Youtube.

I always wondering what makes these guys so good. Was it because Portnoy, Petrucci and Myung were from Berkelee or were they just pre-installed with talent, creativity and madness at the same time when they were born? For me, a good musician is innate in musicianship and God knows how they could evolved into a highly talented prodigy. Practice is essential as well. Practicing (and lots of it) will turned most people to be excel on bed in music, but it won’t be enough or satisfyingly without the natural talent.

I’ve seen numbers of musician were being so stiff hitting the notes while turning the music sheet pages. Technically, these people can perform flawlessly. Average people might simply absorb what they delivered on. But music shouldn’t be limited to the form of what you only listen. It’s a whole soul and physical experience. The feel must be there thoroughly. I can’t enjoy the music if the musicians weren’t enjoying it themselves. Itu barang kena ada, brader.

Today, anyone can produce a good music providing they have the idea, creativity and good music software in hand. A person who never touch a piano in his life could write a classical piano piece with soft synths and sequencer software. In fact, there are lots of bands who relies on software to achieve any sound they need. While it may work, the sense of touch should apply as well. Double pedal kick, snare, hi-hat and cowbells didn’t sound right if they were struck at the same time, unless you’re doing techno, but cowbells on techno? I won’t feng tau to that.

My point here is, to be a good musician or to produce a good music, one need to actually understand how the instrument works. Make a sense out of it. You don’t have to apply all the whole orchestra strings in your music if you perform as a 3-piece funky band.

Finally, have fun with it. Enjoy the flow of delivering the medium of God’s breath (quoting Beethoven) to the audience. If you don’t have charisma, find way to have one. You need it as a musician. At least if you want to be a serious musician.
